David Hockney Inspired Collage

South Amboy

Mommadukes!

For the first image, I went all the way to South Amboy to get a nice image of the ocean. I think for the most part, I did a good job at putting the picture back together, like a puzzle. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the sky is different colors, but when I tried to change the colors using the "curves" on Macromedia, the colors weren't coming out to the way I wanted them to.
For the second image, I decided to use my mom as the subject. I chose her because I thought she'd be easier to work with, and that she was always around. She wasn't in my original plans as the subject, but this worked out better. I actually like the way this photo came out better than the ocean one, because I feel like everything meshes together better.
I think overall, this was a successful project.

  1. Both are very well done. The waterfront is exposed currectly and makes for a nice composition the way you put it back together. Your portrait is clear and focused which is hard to maintain when shooting macro. You achieved lots od detail as Hockney would have. Only constructive note is that some of your skin tones have a blue color cast, use curves to fix this.

  2. I think both of your collages were successful. Everything meshes together well and you made good use of composition. I like the portrait one because you can tell you used different angles since the light is exposed differently in different spots.
